![]() He wanted this issue addressed before spending any other monies with us because that one comment alone affected his business reputation greatly. There was nothing I could do on my end, yet I was still expected to sell to this person! Thankfully the business owner saw the value in having Yelp but I felt so bad that I couldn't help him. I too thought it was unacceptable but the comment was never removed. I was told there is software they use to prune through these comments but I had one client who I was trying to sell to that had a comment that has remained on their business page for years accusing them of being a terrorist (and many other foul things). Also Yelp needs better damage control ESPECIALLY with people who leave untrue comments or just straight up threatening comments on business pages. Many businesses closed (for good or temporarily) and I was often told by business owners that advertising was not even a priority. For my pipeline specifically it was extremely hard to sell (NY/NJ/MI area) because of Yelp's response to COVID. Some managers even expected us to use our personal cell phone numbers to reach out to clients which I felt was a big no-no for a few reasons. There was an incessant need to check in with managers to the point that I spent more time on the phone with managers than the clients I had in my pipeline. Distributing work from home equipment was less than perfect, and I had major troubleshooting issues with it. I loved it when I first started in person but COVID really ran down the daily operations at Yelp. This type of degrading behavior is typical at Yelp so if you don't do well with sales, beware. Law school is expensive and not worth it but you can work toward getting to commission here. The manager proceeded to say you need to let that dream go and focus on earning more here. One person in my training class was a lower earner and the manager pulled him to the side and ask him what his aspirations are in life, he said he wants to go to law school. If you aren't selling as much you don't even exist to management. They just put high earners in leadership position not folks that can actually help you learn more skills. I've known some people that are outstanding and can get the job done with ease but its truly a skill that cannot be taught. The training process was in-depth but there's nothing like finally getting on the phones and getting cussed out by people that you're annoying by cold calling twice a week. I only last for one summer because being an account executive here was so chaotic. Thank you for your hard work, and we wish you the best in your next role! In addition, on average, a business owner can expect to make an additional $24,000 annually in revenue just by spending $300 per month on Yelp advertising! We're proud of the fact that our product works for local businesses - it's a matter of our Account Executives staying persistent to educate those business owners on how they can make the most of their Yelp page. ![]() We know this approach is not for everyone, but we've created a successful and supportive environment through this strategy. This sometimes includes things like dropping in on calls to assist with closing deals or managers having team check-ins multiple times per day to ensure everyone is on-track to achieve their goals. Our goal is to give ample support to our sales team while they learn new sales skills and practice new tactics. Our management style at Yelp is very hands-on, and to some, this may feel like micro-management. Thank you for your feedback! Free food is definitely a great perk of working at Yelp, but what's most important to us is that every person who comes on board at Yelp has a solid understanding of the highs and lows that a career in sales can bring.
